3. Mau Son (Lang Son Province)

Mau Son peak in winter is also another captivating site for tourists. This is a high mountainous area of Lang Son Province with diverse topography that has the average height of 800 to 1000 meters above sea level. This area consists of 80 mountains in all sizes with Phia Po (1541 meters) is the highest peak. Phia Po is also called Cong or Cong Son peak, in which the milestone no. 42 marking the border between Vietnam and China is set.

Mau Son mountainous area has two clear seasons in a year. Winter begins in November and ends in March next year with average temperature of 6 to 13 Celsius Degree and could be below 0 Celsius Degree and usually has ice.

The Mau Son Peak is surrounded by clouds and mist all year round and the most ideal time to discover the faint beauty of Mau Son is from the end of December to the next January. This mountainous region is where ethnic groups including Dao, Nung and Tay inhabit. Travelling to Mau Son in this time, you would have the opportunity to taste its specialties namely Tuyet Son tea, six-legged chickens, precious ‘huong’ frogs, grilled pork, Mau Son liquor, Mau Son’s bell-shaped peach blossoms or Dao ethnic people’s method of bathing with herbs in wooden bathtub.
